Our Mentoring Challenge Moves into Week Two!
By PChip | Category: Business Management |Our 30-Day Digi-Scrap Business Challenge officially started a week ago and we’ve already had several business tips posted here at DSD-Pro. As we came to the end of week one I began listing snippets from each of the tips and provided links to them via the summary page. I hope that makes it easier to find them.
Here’s My Business Tip for Day Eight: Network with others in the same field you are in by participating in online community forums and by getting to know scrappers through their blogs too. This activity will keep you in the loop with the latest trends, solidify friendships, offer the chance to develop business relationships, and provide you with helpful resources as well.
When I announced the 30-Day Challenge, I mentioned that this group writing project will be a greater source of information based on the number of participants we get. So far we have three fairly consistent contributors. That’s absolutely great! I love the tips that David of AardvarkScrapbooking.com, Loonyhiker, and Rachel of RachelClarkDesigns have offered here and look forward to seeing more as we continue through the challenge. This is just one of many opportunities available for networking with peers. I’m sure you can think of others you have.
The Mini-Tasker I offer for you today is to reach out to fellow digi-scrappers and continue networking through other outlets. Feel free to use a conversation about this 30-Day collaborative effort, to open the communication channels and start developing relationships with your peers elsewhere too. It would be great if we could get even more participation and encourage additional peer coaching!
We’ve had some good publicity with articles on other blogs pointing to our 30-Day Challenge announcement. Special thanks goes to Angie at ScrapbookMarketing.com, Rachael at RachaelClarkDesigns and to Karen at ScrapsOfMind.com too. Here’s a few ways you can get more involved also:
- Mention our challenge at the community forums, MSN or Yahoo Groups where you post to and on your websites too. Share with the readers what types of tips we’ve had thus far. They may find them helpful and be appreciative of your share.
- Toss out our link ( http://dsd-professionals/ ) to any wiki’s you find that have a digital scrapbooking section to them.
- Submit our 30-Day Challenge articles to social bookmarking sites, using the “Share This” link found at the bottom of every article here at DSD-Pro. This helps your rankings at the social sites as well.
- Leave comments on the challenge postings here and at the blogs of our other participants, telling us about your own experiences and sharing your tips with the readers. Use this opportunity to get to know each other even better.
- Post your tips on your own sites and let me know about them so I can link up with you too. Remember that shared links help get your site noticed in the search engines.
I’m looking forward to another week of networking and hearing more tips from fellow digi-scrappers!

Tip for Day 8: Timing. The scrapbooking industry is huge. This was a $2.5 billion a year (US only) industry in 2004, with nearly 1 in 4 households scrapping in one form or another - 27 million. It is even bigger now. Scrapping is the third most popular craft in the nation.
Now look at digital scrapping - Over 80% of scrappers us a digital camera. The pictures are already IN the computer. Over 35% of Americans feel comfortable editing photos.
Now think of the players in the digital scrapbooking industry. Big players? 2Peas maybe. A couple of others. No-one yet like Michaels, Making Memories, etc.
The potential market is huge, and wide open, with room for everyone. What we have to do, collectively, is to keep on encouraging people to go digital. We all know the benefits.
And all we have to do in our own businesses is to keep up the quality, keep selling and keep helping our customers, and not be afraid of the competition, but welcome it.
And that’s just the US market… (-:
David you are so very right about the potential for growth in the industry! Afraid of the competition? No way! Bring it on my friends.
I love it all!
David I totally agree! Its rather an exciting time to get into the digital scrapbooking business. So many people are just discovering it.
And so many still haven’t even heard of. I can’t wait to see how the digital scrapbooking industry will look in say five ten years.
Cindy great tips. I think you are totally right about networking. Digital scrapbooking as in any business it pays to know the right people. To get involved in the community and help gain others trust. And get your name out there.
