Business Coaches Wanted!

I mentioned John Gerard’s 31 Days to Become Famous in my last blog entry.  You may be wondering why I picked him to talk about since he doesn’t seem to be a digi-scrapper and has nothing to do with the ”making money in the digital scrapbooking industry” theme of DSD-Pro.  Well, here’s my take:

He’s Like the Rest of Us

In his own way, John’s quest is similar to the one many digi-scrap artists are on.  He’s traveling into a city like New York where he feels nameless and overwhelmed - similarly many digi-scrap designers have those feelings when they start out their businesses too.  There’s such a big showing of designers and S4O professionals already on the web, sometimes the new business owner feels like they are lost in the crowd and that they may never get noticed.

Were You Ever Lost?

His journey began as a result of feeling lost and looking for more personal fulfillment in his job.  Not knowing exactly where to turn, he just struck out to reach a goal and is taking one day at a time to get there.  Maybe he’ll reach his goal, maybe he won’t.  Maybe he’ll just get stalled a bit along the journey.  He may even get burned out and give it up completely.  I see some parallels between what he was doing in real life and what digi-scrap professionals do in the virtual world.

It may be interesting to watch how he goes and to see what he learns.   John is brave and is following the burning desire inside of him.  One thing I see he’s missing here is a coach; a mentor; someone to help show him some steps that might make his job a bit easier.  So he’s using the assistance and guidance he gets from strangers who may not take his goal seriously or even care about his quest at all.  Although they are good hearted and may mean well - they may unknowingly be slowing him down.  With only 31 days to accomplish his task, he really doesn’t have much room to wiggle too far off the path.

Will You Be a Mentor?

With that said - I want to help coach you along the way with your digi-scrap business and spend time with others who are willing to do the same.  I’m asking you to use the web to reach out and mentor a fellow entrepeneur in our industry – by participating in a 30-Day challenge I’m posting here tomorrow!

I’m not telling you about the details of this challenge today because I just want you to focus on the idea of giving back to the community.  Not on the how.  Not on the who.  Not on the What.  Just consider the giving part.

Are You Willing to Give Back to the Digi-Art Community?

Think about that question today.  Sleep on it tonight.  No matter how new you are to the industry or how experienced you are in your digi-art craft, everyone… EVERYONE… has something they can teach someone else.  Each of us has something we can learn from a peer.  Are you willing to do that?  Are you willing to share a few thoughts, experiences, lessons, or tools of the trade, that may help out another professional?

In my last blog entry I encouraged you to always give as much as you receive in this world… and then give some more.  Here’s a chance for you to do just that.  Come back here tomorrow and find out about the 30-Day business event.  Let’s see if you are up to the challenge.

Contact the People You Admire

The more scrappy artists who jump in and help with peer coaching - the better and more fulfilling this project will be for everyone involved.  So send over your scrappy friends and the designers you most admire. This is going to be a terrific opportunity for gathering business information, gaining traffic at your website, making new friends, sharing warm fuzzies, and networking with peers.  If you participate in the challenge you’ll help others while helping yourself.  I promise!
