Four Great Reasons to Distribute Your Newsletter Automatically

I want to start this 4th article in the autoresponder series with a quick summary of what we’ve discussed so far.  If you missed any of the previous articles in this series, I encourage you to use the menu on the right to click back to them and get a clear understanding of the subject.  Here’s what we’ve covered so far:

Why use an Autoresponder to Distribute Your Newsletter?

Are you like many digi-scrap business owners - you have a newsletter you send out to your list of contacts?  Many of your peers use an autoresponder to distribute theirs and if you aren’t, you might want to reconsider.  Let me just say right up front that an autoresponder isn’t necessary to deliver newsletters.  However there are some very compelling reasons to use an autoresponder.

1.  The most powerful reason is because you can automate the mailings.  To do this you simply create your newsletter in advance, then set the autoresponder to send them out on whatever date you want. You can write your mailings weeks in advance and have them go out whether you have access to a computer or not.  It’s a great way to stay on schedule with your business activities even while you are on vacation!

2.  If you are using the aweber program that I’ve recommended in the past, you can also track click-throughs from your newsletters.  Not only does this enable you to track how many times a particular message has driven traffic to your web pages - but using it can also help you to learn about what your subscribers want and to optimize your email campaign.  If you develop a campaign with multiple messages, it will help you to track which of your messages are most effective in driving traffic to your landing pages.  Should you decide to take a different approach with your campaign of messages, you can use awebers split testing feature too.  Anytime you can use a tool to help you track how successful your advertisements are - go for it!  If you are using a different autoresponder, be sure to see if they have any click tracking options for you.  If they do - don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about your customers habits and interests!

3.  You can send your newsletters out as a follow up message, meaning you can schedule them to follow another mailing event if you want or you can broadcast them out individually.  Sending them out individually is pretty easy to understand.  You send out the newsletter let’s say the first of January to all the leads on your list.  Then you send out another one first of February to everyone on your list at that time.  If folks joined your list after the first of January, they simply start getting your newsletter starting with the February newsletter.

Using a follow up message in your autoresponder you can schedule your newsletters to go out one after the other, however many days apart you want.  For example you can have your Newsletter Issue One go out to every subscriber 1 day after they subscribe.  Newsletter Issue two is set to go to each member in the list 30 days later.  So whether the client subscribes the first day of January or the 15th of January, they will still get both newsletters - one 30 days after the other.  Since this is automatic, you don’t have to keep track of who gets which newsletter on which date.

4.  If the first 3 reasons I offered for using an autoresponder to distribute your newsletter isn’t enough - here’s one more.  Autoresponder programs make it easy for you to send in both html and plain text messages.  With so many people making the choice to recieve email messages in just one format or the other - it’s always wise to support both.  You can do this in just a couple clicks of the mouse from just about any autoresponder program worth a dime.
