Do Digital Freebies Increase Your Sales?
By PChip | Category: Business Management | 3 commentsIn one of the 12 digi-scrap communities where I hang out, there was a discussion about whether or not freebies actually increased sales. The consensus was that most of the time freebies discouraged additional sales rather than increased them. There haven’t been any comments on that posting for almost a year now. I’m wondering if any of our new DSD-Pro readers would share their experiences with this;
How often you offer freebies to your customers?
If you use them with the intent to generate sales – hows that going for you?
Do you think freebies help your business or hinder it?

Hello:
As a site owner, it increase my traffic in bandwith and no sales resulted from anyone that download the freebies.
But I have hope that they have use the product and others have seen it.
Maggie
I’m a very new shop, but have been offering freebies on my blog for some time.
the freebies bring traffic and they do come back, so i’m hoping they will eventually buy.
Also, about 90% of these people sign up for the newsletter, so i’m hoping that will convert them to buying customers, or at least post their layouts with freebies in my gallery! LOL!
I took the suggestion of a veteran designer and made a $1 section in my shop. She had found that most people who would download a freebie would also pay $1 for them. And once they have a cart open, they will purchase something else.
My $1 section has only been open 1 week though, so I can’t say if it’s working. I plan to eventually limit my freebies and put those items in the $ section.
I’m interested to see what others have to add on this topic.
From time to time I give away a freebie in association with a purchase. But I don’t have freebies offered up front just for the sake of giving a way a freebie.
I do offer a sample product that shows the quality of my work though. I don’t think the freebies I attach to sales gets me any additional sales. But I don’t honestly know.
