Things are Messy – But We Are Live…

So here’s the deal… I’ve been going in about 20 different directions since I returned from my TDY.  First I had to correct a ton of errors in the new members benefits area.  Secondly the software migration from our old forums to the new one required a little tweaking, and thirdly we completely changed our minds on the new blog formatand actually started all over again twice!  This project turned out to be huge.

And We’re Not Finished Yet!

Even with all the unexpected glitches, we are actually getting closer to “the light at the end of the tunnel.”  At least we think we are.  Each of these three smaller projects still have a very little ways to go and we’ll continue gimping along here for a bit and beg for your patience as we finish ‘er up. I hate to tell you a date we expect to get things done by, because so far we’ve missed every suspense we set for this project. Not just one or two of them – every single one of them! So I’m not going to set another date-of-completion again. It’s just too frustrating and only serves to bring down the team when we miss it.

Our To-Do List:

The list grows smaller each day and slowly, but surely we’re crossing items off.  Still yet to go on the blog is getting the postings re-categorized and our main index pages finished.  If you log into one of the pages now, you’ll see little messages letting you know that we’re still under construction.  When you see one of these messages mysteriously disappear it is a day for celebration!  It means we’ve crossed another to-do item off the list. I’m sure you can sooooo relate to the good feelings of being able to do that.

In the forums we need to finish up the basic info for our guests to view and finish adding back some of the tutorials we’re still missing from our previous forums.  It would help us tremendously if our associates could start adding back into the public areas again your contact info and links to your websites.

Remember – the more you link from the forums back to your own websites – the higher your ranking in the search engines.  So take some time this next week to update your info again and get those links going back out to your blogs, forums, web stores, and other web locations!  I sent out several messages to our forum members from the old site and let you know what your login info was for the new site.  If you missed that info or need it again here’s a little reminder – you can get the login info from inside the benefits center.  So just open your new associates account in the benefits center and then look at the ‘news’ messages in the left hand column for login info on the forums.  :)   Sorry to by cryptic.  But I’m not going to give out passwords here in the blog.

In the Associates Benefits Center, we primarily need to get the affiliate marketing information added and then wrap up the giant gift-basket giveaway documentation.  Then we’ll be pretty much finished.  We will however continue to add more products and services as time goes on.

Are We There Yet, Mom?

Outside of the fact that we’ve had far too many delays and setbacks leaving us completely behind schedule – we have actually been able to meet many of our other reorganization goals.  Some of the things we planned to accomplish included:

  • getting our products and services more clearly identified and make it easier for our members to locate them, download them, and understand the benefits of them
  • streamlining our forum strings and relocate our outside advertising sites – inside the forums, making everything easier to find and utilize
  • add our training center information into the same area where other benefits were located and increase the training offerings
  • reformat the web-locations in our network to have a more cohesive look and business style to them
  • add into the mix of things products and services that have been on the back burner far too long (weekly business tips, resellable art, affiliate sale opportunities, customer list building options, webmaster tools, etc.)
  • move from a monthly fee plan to a one-time payment/liftime membership program

We aren’t quite where we wanted to be just yet, but we are so much closer than we were even a few weeks ago.  Still to come are more products that we haven’t loaded into the benefits center yet and lots of new articles, tutorials, and business information that needs to be uloaded to the networking forums.  We are considering whether or not to recruit new management team members as well, since we lost two of them in the last two months.

A Break Is In Order

We’ve all put most of our own business projects on hold as soon as this reorganization project took off.  So we’ll be taking a short breather after these last few things are accomplished here to allow us the opportunity to return to our own personal businesses and family projects for a bit before we do a re-launch of DSD-Pro.  By then we should have things around the DSD-Pro house straightened up much better.

Have you ever done in home remodeling while you were still trying to live in the home?  Man, oh man, construction sites are always so darned messy and it seems even worse when you’re still trying to conduct business in the midst of the dust and clutter.  That’s what it has felt like around here for so long I’m just exhausted from it all!  Sometimes I think we would have been better off to not even launch the site until we had everything in place.  I’m not sure if this has helped us or hurt us.  Well either way it is what it is and we will just continue to move forward.

So What Do You Think Thus Far?

Can you take a minute to tell us if things are getting more organized and easier to find?  If the tools we are providing for you to use in your business are helpful or not?  Is the training materials we’ve already loaded along the path of what you’ve told us you wanted?  We’d like to know if we are getting closer.  We’d also like to know if we are way off the mark too.

Please let us know your thoughts.  And again – thanks so very much for hanging in there with us as we’ve muddled through all this!

  1. The new site looks great. I’m really liking the new layout. It’s easier to follow and the extra pages with the information categorized is terrific. looking forward to visiting often to see what’s going on!

  2. even though your to-do list sounds like you have a way to go, i think you’ve already done a lot. i’m totally impressed with the progress you’ve made so far. i’m still finding my way around. but so far i like what i see. i hope that you will be doing more interviews in the near future. i think that’s a good addition to what dsd-pro does. i’m off to register my membership now. thanks for making it free!

  3. Hey PChip – Nice to see you have things back up and running. I was beginnning to think you had gone missing. WOW – it is so different! I played around in here today and I think I’ve got it all figured out. And you are going to laugh about this (because of our previous conversations), but the thing I like the most about the new site is those big social bookmarking buttons. These old eyes just aint what they used to be and these are much much easier to see than that little green one you had before. These will help me to remember to bookmark the site other places too.

I saw a hanging –> tag at the end of your RSS feed on the single page layouts. Not a big deal, but something I thought you may have missed.

The new signup page for your report looks great. Much cleaner now that you took it out of the blog postings. Mind if I copy it…. well I guess I should say, mind if I use it as an example for one I’m working on?

WTG with all the new changes! Keep up the Good work.

  4. Thanks for the comments folks. It’s good to see people are getting active around here again. And even better to finally get the site back up and running too!

JoAnne – I didn’t see that hanging end-code. So thanks very much for telling me about it. Greg got is fixed straight away.

Sherri Scraps – We do have plans to pick back up on our podcasts. Both the bizbuzz and the spotlight reviews. Hopefully we’ll back into the swing sooner than later with that. I’m not going to promise anything on that just yet though.

Thank you all for the encouragement and I apologize for the delay in getting your comments posted live. We’ve had so much spam since we re-launched our blog that I had to turn everything to moderation for a while. I got a new plugin that works better than the default Akismet. So I’m thinking it might work out to go back to live commenting again. We’re going to give it a try anyway!
