What’s in Your Art Portfolio?

Another Digi-Scrap Tip from Greg:Professional Scrapbookers, whether they be paper artists or digi-artists should have a portfolio of their work to show prospective clients.  This is your calling card more than anything else.

In your portfolio include layouts that show your style(s).  Include layouts from various events and multiple journaling type options as well.  This album will be the most important one you show off.  So choose from your favorite and most prized layouts when deciding which ones to display in your portfolio.

Art portfolios for professional scrapbookers can be easily made available online as well as printed.  Actually you should provide both.  When doing your printed portfolio make sure you display your  art in the same manner(s) you provide for your clients.  When showing your online album, it will give the most professional look if you include the layouts in a website on your own domain and not in a public album like photobucket or flickr.

Another method for presenting a portfolio is through a slide show or movie on a DVD or CD that can be shown via your laptop or a television screen at the clients home.

Mini-Tasker(s): Begin work on your portfolio if you don’t have one.  If you do have one, then take time this week to review the layouts in it.  Make sure your package includes several layouts showing the full range of your artistic style.

  1. Tip for Day 19: Great tip Greg. One tool often overlooked is the USB Thumb Drive.

Buy a few cheap ones, peel/clean/sand off the logos and stencil/paint/transfer on your own.

Fill it with your work, electronic business card, links to parts of your website, free digital samples, etc.

Attach it to your key ring and then wherever you go you have your portfolio to show.

Great for those unexpected show and tells.

  2. You know Greg - You’ve got me thinking. I haven’t updated my art portfolio in a long time. I’m going to take a second look at it and see about adding the latest and greatest. :) Thanks for the reminder.

David, I use my thumb drive for a ton of things. Those are just the handiest little inventions aren’t they?!
