Clean Digi-Scrapping - Makes Good Business Sense

Today’s Tip:

An organized filing system in any office, makes it easier to accomplish the tasks at hand.  This isn’t limited to your physical office space.  It’s also relevant to your virtual space. This is especially true for digital scrapbook professionals!

If you have your digi-files all over the place, rather than organized and filed in a easy-to-understand system, it’s going to take you longer to accomplish your jobs.  When searching for things that aren’t put into a designated folder - it causes frustration and stress too.

Get Organized

There are many ways to organize your digital files.  You can purchase various file and photo tracking systems.  You can develop your own.  You can add printouts to your filing solutions as well.

I do a little of each in order to keep a clean virtual office. I have a filing system that I’ve set up myself for storing written articles and books. I use a file organizing system that was packaged with my graphics software, for keeping track of digital art files. I also print out TOU’s and other legal papers along with graphic snapshots when appropriate and these are stored in hardcopy files in a file cabinet.

Everyone is so different in the way they think through processes and organize items and information.  Chances are good that the filing system which works for me, won’t work for you.  The point is that you need to have some cleanliness to your work files.  In the case of a digital scrapbook professional, our files include photos, graphic arts, contracts, and other business papers.  Do you have your organized?

Mini-Tasker:

Develop a filing system that works for you.  If you already have one in place, then double check to see that things are in place.  If they aren’t… take some time to tidy things up a bit. Share with us what your system looks like too. Your solutions may be just what a fellow scrapper has been looking for!

  1. Tip for Day 13: Hi, this is Marty from Aardvark Scrapbooking.

After David has been putting up so many of these tips, I thought it was my turn. This is pretty apt as I’m the one that keeps things tidy and organized. David is the one that scatters everything around everywhere, on his desk and desktop, but keeps things straight somehow in his head.

I’m the one who has a place for everything and everything in its place. And that definitely goes for my scrapbooking supplies, be it paper or digi. David built me wonderful shelves and a work bench in our scrap room. I’d find it extremely difficult to be creative/productive if I didn’t know/couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for to make a layout.

Thanks for the leads and links you’ve been sending our way. We’re still very new to this and it makes a big difference to us.

  2. Hi Marty. It’s nice to meet you. Your business partnership and mine appear to be opposites. In our household we have a full computer lab with multiple units and my DH and I sit back to back when we are both in the office at the same time. Because that’s the way our work centers are set up.

His desk top is usually cleaner than mine. Although my virtual desktop is filled with more icons, it’s actually less cluttered as I know the “behind the scenes” files are stored in a more orderly fashion than his are. ;)

Hubby here is super handy and creates many pieces of furniture in our home. He too has built some awesome storage space in my art studio and it’s just the best! I tend to have a not-so-neat work bench in my eclectic studio. As a multi-media artist, I have too many pieces of eye candy that are of different shapes and sizes.

However, his shelving has helped tramendously to keep me organized better. My paints, stamps, inks, paper making supplies and various wood projects and altered art works all have a storage area of their own. My hardware and tools each have their little spot as well.

The trick, you see - is that I have to actually remember to put my goodies away when I’m finished “playing” with them. So although I too have a place for everything, I can’t say I’m very religious about keeping everything in it’s place. ROFLOL

My virtual workspace is much, much cleaner than my art studio space.

I look forward to hearing more from you in the future. You and David have a great weekend!

  3. If only I could organise my mind Cindy. I have implemented so many different types of organisation and filing systems and I still can’t get it right.

  4. Karen, I think a disorganized mind is part of our creative souls, don’t you. At least that’s my excuse. LOL

Keep working at finding the right organization method. Eventually you’ll find one that’s a good match for your personality. :)
