What Did You Do to Market Your Busisness Today?

I’m running short on time and energy today. Even so - I know how important it is to stay consistant in advertising my business. As a solopreneur, if I don’t do it, no one will. Well no one that isn’t on my staff.  Even so - today is a holiday in the USA so folks are all out playing.  Since the web surfers are still surfing and I’ve got a few minutes available at my desk - I’m here to deliver my message and take some time marketing my business. Then I’m off to holiday with everyone else again.

My Tip for Day 3 of our challenge is to do something at least 5 days a week to let folks know how to contact you or where you are located on the web.  This effort will pay off quickly.  Give it up and you’ll see that your business may suffer.

There are going to be times when you really need to sit down and hand-jam a full article, an advertising brochure, a press release, or some other form of marketing that’s time consuming.  There will be many days when you are short of time and want very much to simply put off this duty.   Don’t let that keep you from doing it though.  Find ways to market your products/services that don’t take much time.

Here are  Four Ways to Quickly Get a bit of Advertising

  1. Comment on blogs, forums and websites that have a similar calling to your business.  However, make sure your comments are actually adding to the conversation.  If possible leave a link back to your website.
  2. Post a picture of one of your recent layouts in an online gallery and mention your business.
  3. Post your website URL, business phone number, or mailing address in a public place outside of the cyber world.  Like on an advertisement bulletin board in the grocery store or local coffee shop.
  4. Comment on someone else’s layout in a gallery that you frequent, or at flickr or photobucket type photo storage websites.

The Mini-Tasker for today is to accomplish at least one thing that will help folks know who you are, what you do, and where they can get more info about your business.  If you have time, tackle one of the bigger items.  If you don’t then do something quicker. But whatever you do - take the time to market yourself today… and then again tomorrow… and then the next day too.  Because marketing is one of the most important jobs you’ll ever have.

  1. Day 3: And somewhat germaine to today’s entry above - Affiliate. New and tiny businesses need a good boost to get going and one of the best ways to get that boost is to find a pack running the right direction and join in. Nature finds protection in herds and business is no different. Swap links, cross-sell designs, comment and form a group.

If a dozen small design sellers like Aardvark join together and form, say, an “Association of Digital Scrapbook Designers”, carrying a small banner, they will all gain extra exposure and lose less traffic straight back to the industry giants.

Such an Association (like DSD-Pro) may for example feature products from the members, keep standard legal practices for all, and act as a guarantee of quality of some kind, as well as other umbrella services to help reassure the buyer that the business and product is legit.

Trying to beat Goliath on your own takes luck, skill and practice - in a group it is easier and more fun at the same time.

  2. Networking also is important. You never know who you will be in contact with and who they may know. It’s amazing how far reaching this can get.

  3. Absolutely grand advice from both of you. Thanks for sharing and networking with your fellow DSD-Pro folks!

  4. In each of the forums I use, I have added a clickable blinkie to my blog. I also have the description - clickable link to my FREEBIES blog right next to it. I get a lot of traffic this way. I have set it up as an automatic signature so I don’t forget to do it each time.

  5. Nice tip on setting your signature so it’s automatic! Thanks for sharing the idea.
